The article Pau Elétrico, deals with the origins of the Guitarra Baiana in the early 1940s. It prototype, known as Pau Elétrico ('electric log')or Cavaquinho Elétrico shares some essential characteristics with the North American Mandocaster built by Fender from 1956, such as the solid body and use of 4 single strings.
